Trillium Woods Hosts Alzheimer’s Fundraising Walk on Campus

Not everyone was able to make it to Target Field for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. To ensure residents could participate, Trillium Woods senior living community hosted its own Alzheimer’s fundraising walk on campus Tuesday, September 23, at its 46-acre community in Plymouth. The event gave senior residents and their families the chance to walk together while continuing to build on the $20,000 already raised earlier this year for the Alzheimer’s Association and its Minneapolis chapter.
The walk began under purple balloon arches and featured a photo booth, hot dog lunch, live music, and lawn games such as corn hole and ladder golf. Residents and their families enjoyed strolling walking paths decorated with colorful chalk art and fresh flowers. The event also included a silent auction where residents and staff bid on Alzheimer’s fundraising baskets.

Why It Matters

According to the Minnesota Department of Health:

  • In 2020, an estimated 99,000 Minnesotans aged 65 and older had Alzheimer’s disease.
  • By 2025, that number is expected to increase by more than 21% to 120,000, largely due to the state’s aging population.
  • In 2019, 210,000 Minnesota adults ages 45 and older reported experiencing signs of cognitive decline, which may indicate mild cognitive impairment. Half of these adults were between 45–64 years of age.
  • Only four in 10 Minnesotans who noticed signs of cognitive decline had spoken with a health care provider about it.

By bringing the Alzheimer’s walk directly to campus, Trillium Woods provided an opportunity for its community to contribute to this critical cause—together, right at home.
